Flu Vaccination

Manor Pharmacy offer the flu vaccination at a range of branches throughout the East Midlands, with specially trained pharmacists to administer the seasonal jab to customers this winter. The vaccinations will be available for patients over 13 years of age.

Why should I get the flu vaccine?

No vaccine is 100% effective against the flu virus, however people who have had the flu vaccine are much less likely to get flu. If you do get flu despite having the vaccine, it will probably be milder that if you haven't been vaccinated.

What if you've been vaccinated before?

Even if patients have already had a flu vaccine in previous years, they will need another one this year. The flu vaccination will only protect you for a year, this is due to viruses that cause flu are always changing. This year's seasonal flu vaccine covers the anticipated flu strains that will be prevalent this season.

When should I be vaccinated?

The best time of year to get a flu vaccine is in the autumn as it will give protection for the winter months when flu is at its highest levels and gives the vaccine time to develop full effectivness, which is normally 10-14 days.

Are there any side effects?

The flu vaccine doesn't cause flu as it doesn't contain live viruses. However, patients may experience side effects after having the vaccine, such as temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days afterwards. The patient's arm may feel sore at the site where they were injected. More severe reactions are very rare.

Who shouldn't have the vaccination?

Patients should not be given the flu vaccine if they have a serious allergy to hens' eggs or latex, or if they have had a serious reaction to a flu vaccine before.

How much is the flu vaccine?

The charge for each flu vaccine will be £10.
